You’re invited to Fast and Pray in the lead up to our Prayer Day on January 19th.
Fasting
Here’s how we are inviting you to participate:
- Go without food and drink (except water) for an extended period during the week starting Monday, Jan 13th. You might choose to skip 1-2 meals in the day. If you’re experienced at fasting, you might go a 24 hour period.
- Replace the times where you would normally eat and drink with a time of prayer. Families with younger children might like to use the Lectio For Families app to help with these times.
- At times when you feel hungry, take a moment out of your day to pray.
- When you break your fast with a meal, be sure to celebrate the moment. Reflect on what God has taught you during the fasting period. You might like to write down what he has been showing you.
- If you sense God has taught you something worth sharing with the Plentylife community, please email it to kirk@plentylife.org.au.
Questions to ask God during the day:
- Lord, what are you doing in my life/community and how can I get involved?
- Could you please help <insert names here> know that you love them?
- Bring your own questions to the Lord. What do you need to grieve, repent of, seek guidance for?
Important things to note:
- Please do not put your health at risk by fasting. If you have a health condition where you need to eat, please fast from something other than food. Likewise if you have grappled with an eating disorder, past or present, please fast from something other than food.
- Continue to drink water while you fast.
- Parents, please adapt these guidelines in age appropriate ways for your family.
